About me
I got my start in plant microbiome research working with Dr. Posy Busby and Dr. Jared LeBoldus at Oregon State University. For my undergraduate honors thesis, I worked with Dr. Busby to characterize the fungal endophytes of Coastal Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. menziesii) seeds from the United States and New Zealand, and test whether some of these endophytes conferred drought tolerance to Douglas-fir seedlings. I then worked as a lab technician for Dr. Busby and Dr. LeBoldus to characterize the wood mycobiome of Populus trichocarpa from trees free from and infected with the pathogen Sphaerulina musiva.
Outside of research, I am passionate about environmental science education and ecological sustainability. Raised in Portland, Oregon, many of my fondest experiences have been in the beautiful forests, mountains and coasts of the Pacific Northwest. As a high school student, I taught 6th graders about forest plants and fungi in the MESD Outdoor School program, which was where I discovered my love for plant-fungal symbiotic relationships and teaching about the environment. Going forward, I am continuing my involvement in education and advocacy through mentoring students in my research and outreach programs.
When I'm not working, I am usually riding bikes with my husband, baking, reading, traveling and hanging out with my cat. I also enjoy playing music and nature photography from time to time.
